Guidelines for taking the test: - Do not use reference books and/or dictionaries - Allow yourself 30 minutes max. for the test
SECTION A (BASIC / INTERMEDIATE) - a. Give the interrogative using: what – where – when – who – how – why - etc:
Eg. You’re eating a sandwich – What are you eating?
1.She’s going home by bus.
2.He lives in Paris.
3.You’re learning English.
4.They study at night.
5.We bought a car.
SECTION A (BASIC / INTERMEDIATE) - b. Give the past tense:
Eg. I’m tired – I was tired
1.I do my homework.
2.We don’t know what to do.
3.They are taking a French course.
4.She studies in Ottawa.
5.Do you know how to get there?
SECTION A (BASIC / INTERMEDIATE) - c. Re-write in 3rd person singular:
Eg. We don’t remember – She doesn’t remember
1.How do you know?
2.They need to practice their English.
3.I want to talk to my friend.
5.Do they speak Greek?
SECTION A (BASIC / INTERMEDIATE) - d. Give the negative:
Eg. I know what you mean – I don’t know what you mean
1.Stay with us!
2.She knew the answer.
3.I’ll call if I have time.
4.I forgot what you said.
5.I talked to her because I knew her.
SECTION B (INTERMEDIATE+ / ADVANCED) - e. Use either the present perfect or the present perfect progressive of the given verbs:
Eg. The children are at the park – They (play) have been playing ball for the last two hours.
1.Jim (play) soccer only a couple of times, so he’s not very good at it.
2.Janice (sleep) for almost eleven hours. Don’t you think we should wake her up?
3.We (fly, not) on a plane since last year when I was on a plane that had a fire in one of its engines.
4.I started trying to reach Mr. Wah three days ago. Since then, I (fax) him twice and I (phone) him four times.
5.Is Celine here yet? Yes. She (arrive, just)
SECTION B (INTERMEDIATE+ / ADVANCED) - f. Choose the correct completion:
Eg. Mary can B to the meeting. – (A to come – B come – C comes – D has come)
